Trio athlétique racontant l’expérience militaire qui ponctue l’entrée dans l’âge adulte de la jeunesse israélienne, cette pièce de Roy Assaf se distingue par la délicatesse émotionnelle affleurant dans des enchaînements virtuoses. Sur scène, les interprètes livrent une danse souvent drôle, dans laquelle leurs gestes, fraternels et gamins, ponctuent une musique militaire qui semble trop grande pour eux. A l’aide d’une bande-son éclectique, Roy Assaf transmet pleinement sa vision d’adultes en devenir embarqués malgré eux dans un conflit territorial démesuré, condamnés à stationner absurdement sur une colline où il ne se passe rien.

The Hill is a trio directly inspired by israeli history. Three dancers perform a virtuoso and often humoristic dance where their brotherly and childish gestures punctuate an israeli military music which seems way too big for them. When we hear Givat Hatamoshet’s song – a direct reference to one of the culminating points of the six-day-war of 1967 – followed by I started a joke by the Bee Gees, we realise Roy Assaf’s vision of an israeli youth that has been dragged into a overblown territorial conflict, condemned to be posted absurdly on a hill where nothing happens.
